  1. Tribute to Chano Pozo - From Mambo To Hip Hop by DJ Timber...know your history!!

    06 January 2012 - 05:04 PM

I feel with the way the B-Boy scene is today, many people neglect to do their homework, or simply just don't care, about the music they dance to or where it comes from. They just want a quick fix with music, something they can pick up and throw away without knowing anything about it. This article is by no means a biography of Chano Pozo, it's just a small dedication which I hope will help someone somewhere discover something new about something they love and hopefully open someones eyes and ears to understanding something new!

  2. Just Jam Aftermath

    24 October 2011 - 01:08 PM

    WOW!!!!

Just Jam was amazing!!! I got really inspired by the whole weekend!! Simply an incredible experience and I believe possibly a new landmark in UK B-Boy events!!

Freeze's workshop started me off!! Jam and Juice theatre night was highly enjoyable!! I really enjoyed DJing at the jam in the lobby in the breaks and afterwards...a real party atmosphere, mad fun!!!

the 1 vs 1...don't know if I've ever seen such quality (& not talking just about names, but performance) in a 1 vs 1 competition...T-Killa came out on top against Zomas in the final. Apart from them, from the international guys Tomas, Kinder, Greku & Calle for me were really outstanding. ALL the UK heads stepped it to!!! Many heavyweight battles in every single round, gotta give it up to Manny who took out Toyz!!

Freeze, Mouse & Hat Solo judging!! One of the best judges line ups I've seen in a long time! Would not have liked to be in their shoes, so many tight battles all day!! Ken Masters and Flowrex dressed up and Ninja men did a great job hosting for the day!!

Without doubt the moment of the day had nothing to do with B-Boyin but everything to do with Just Jam, Bad Taste, Newcastle and Hip Hop.... KEN MASTERS RIGS THE JUST JAM RAFFLE SO HIS GIRLFRIEND WINS IT, SHE COMES ON THE DANCEFLOOR, HE WHIPS OFF HIS NINJA JACKET TO HAVE A T-SHIRT WITH A QUESTION MARK ON THE FRONT, I DROP SOME AL GREEN, HE TURNS AROUND, ON THE BACK OF THE T-SHIRT IT SAYS "WILL YOU MARRY ME?" AND SHE SAYS "YEEEEEAAAAASSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!"

the afterparty...what can i say...what happens in Newcastle, stays in Newcastle...Toyz vs Kinder, Hat Solo calling out Mouse and Freeze for a three way 6 round battle...that was history!!! MC Timber on the mic (watch out!!), heavy tunes all night!!!

A sincere heart felt thank you to all my Bad Taste family for having me back once again to do the record players for the day! I'm already p*ssing myself to come back for next years JUST JAM!!!

    Guaguanco

Aims to pay a Homage to Salsa, It’s Roots and People.

By bringing salsa back to it’s origin

In the 60's and 70's Salsa was living in its golden age, this is agreed to be the case by many scholars, collectors, djs and Salsa lovers everywhere. This was the time when Salsa was truly reflective of its birth in the barrio. The music closely adhered itself to its Afro Latin roots while at the same time having the freedom to express itself in new ways and by adding and fusing the various Afro Latin rhythms together, it also managed to add elements from other musical genres to its repertoire.

At this time vinyl ruled the music world , This state of affairs was no different in Afro Latin music where new LP's were eagerly awaited with excitement by every one interested in this music, scholars, collectors, radio stations and its listeners etc, club DJ's tried to outdo each other in being the first ones to bring the new Killer tunes to the dance floor and dancers, Rumberos/as in turn couldn't wait to try some new step/turn to the new tunes to dance till the early hours. Salsa or Afro Latin music (we think this to be a more accurate term for this music) at this time was vibrant it had an innovative creative force and the sheer energy and bravado of the Barrio and its people where it had come from, evolved and developed for over three decades from the 40's onwards.

GUAGUANCO to celebrate and to pay homage to those heady times is proud to bring to the people a Vinyl Night of Old Skool Salsa Dura from the 60's 70's with some of London's top Djs spinning the tunes that made the people then rock the dance floor to this wonderful beautiful music. QUE VIVA LA SALSA DURA!! Dj Aqulies

    This event will be filmed
