Yo wassup!!

For those that don't know me: I'm ChazB, and I rep the Flyin' Jalapenos Crew (Glasgow, Scotland) and Strife.tv (UK/Worldwide).

This is something that has been happening for a while now, and finally I'm going to be speaking up about it. If you disagree then that is your opinion and I shall respect that :)

___

Aight so here's wassup. When people organise a jam/event/competition/call it whatever u want most people get their friends who own an amateur production company/filming organisation to cover their event; whether that's to save money or something I have no clue. But this is where I get mad:

Once they release the footage, most of it looks like shit! No joke. They either butcher the sound or they can't come up with the dope edit or angle that people need to see. Instead they tamper with the footage and everything just looks wack. WHY ARE WE USING THESE PEOPLE?! Instead of looking outside the culture for those that will film your event for less money/whatever fucking reason, why not look inside the UK scene and scout those that are constantly filming events?? Three people that first come to my head: Doy, Marko, Coyle. Why aren't we supporting the videographers in our scene, and going for others that have no clue how to film a breakin' event?!

Don't get me wrong, you can get some people outside of the scene that have dope equipment that can work their way around filming a breakin' event or a breakin' related video (if they have experience in directing and have a clue about what they want the video to look like), and you do get event promoters like BTC who know how to choose a good videographer, so this isn't directed towards them. But seriously? People are starting their own clothing range (e.g BeatChameleon or D.E.A.D clothing, ATD x StrikeCover, Soulpowered x Hantu Collective) and we are asked to support them...this should apply to the videographers too!!

SUPPORT YOUR OWN!

:)

Word!

I do support when I can, the edit on my last video was done by myself and by orzelos and i enjoyed doing it, even still i know the value of good videographers and photographers, Moole is sick with his camera too.

Over the years i have been fortunate enough to have been covered by marko and doy who have always done an amazing job and have done me a great service and been a huge favour, sometimes ive been able to sort of something for them other times not. Now i know that i need to take care of this in a better way, the value it can add is unreal.

historically this has been gotten really wrong like uk bboy champs official videos in the early days with dubbed music and wack loops then footage cutting the action up like a butcher, however over time even that has got much better and is now a really good dvd to watch. Marko has produced many tear it up dvds which he sells if anyone wants one, there a clause that if you buy it you're allowed to copy and pass it on to as many people as you like.

anyway getting back on topic, our videogrpahers and photographers provide an amazing asset as they create the content we can use to promote forthcoming jams and also with enough views, likes and shares through social media this instantly becomes hugely desirable by sponsors too.

I think its a small cost to pay for strife or whoever to come and film a bboy jam/comp or clip as it should be filmed given the knowledge they have and how that translates onto photos or film, especially if that footage nails you a good cash sponsor.

welsh champs has the most pimped out camera set up with rail tracks haha.

support the documentarians of the scene as much as they support you.

hehe, yeah I think videographers come way down on the list of priorities when organising a comp/jam, when they should be on the same list as DJ's, Judges, and invites if you wanna be serious about your event or want to see the fruits of your labour in putting that event on, rather than some shitty mobile phone footage with sound distortion and shaky hands. I'm not gonna hold a grudge about it. To be honest, my job comes first these days. When I'm in the clip zone I'm working 16 hour days and there's only so many times I can do that each year!!

I think the count is around 60 event highlight clips since I started filming, 90% of which have been in the UK. I've only been invited specifically to film from 3 people in 8 years of filming - Cyanide, Dhalsim and BTC.

One of my long term objectives when I started filming was to get to a level where I would be asked to film a b-boy event abroad and not pay for it. Dont get me wrong, I do it to give back to the scene but you've got to have ambition or objectives in life to feel like you've achieved something. I havent been to a jam in Europe since 2006!! I've been learning filming through travelling around the UK scene, and I love capturing it! And in that time, a few classics have come out, mainly from Scotland.

I hooked up with Strife as we were doing similar things, knew the exposure to the UK scene would massively increase and think the familiarity of my work had bred complacency in the UK, so I dont do as many clips these days. I captured the uk scene relentlessly for a good 5 years and rinsed it. It needs new blood like yourself Chaz.

Anyway, collaborating with Strife was definitely a good move for us and for myself! I'm off to Barcelona in April to film for them, and I'm not paying for it. Feels weird.

Too right bro! You've been one of the only ones to consistently provide great footage of events, plus with your job too that needs recognition.

With regards to Strife, I couldn't be happier. Daniel (especially) has helped me a lot and given me good advice - can't thank him enough for that. Sorry I can't be in Barcelona with you guys, have fun and rep! ;)

Thanks for the love P, was an honour to film Just Jam!

This is what we need more of, support! BTC, Dhalsim and others give their support but more people need to be aware of what we are all doing and therefore bring growth to the UK Scene's videographers...and photographers! :)

Videography is hella expensive. I can't explain how important it is to appreciate, support and thank the guys we have doing it in the scene for little to nothing. It's a time-consuming and tedious task but a good clip can catapult an event into the international scene. Plus it archives what we do.

There's no doubting the part that Doy has played in getting my events recognition. And like Chaz says having someone who understands the scene is so important.

Great to have some new blood in Chaz who is getting better and better with every clip. And Coyle smashed it with his JJ clip.

Respect to the film makers!

Dhalsim, your support is much appreciated! I don't believe it's just about understanding the scene (even though it is very important for rep etc), but I also believe that those that are good at filming bboys are bboys themselves; they can understand angles that match the dynamics of the moves put in front of them. When I was filming with Ray (Team Shmetta) last weekend I learned even more about it.

Fully Agree with all of the above.

I for one fully apreciate the effort Chaz put into filming the old v's new battle last year and i would recommend anyone out there putting on events to think about how these are going to be documented and remembered as I come from a time with very little footage from jams/battles of any quality never mind the excellent work done by the likes of Chaz Doy, Marko & Coyle.

This is our scene and we should all want to see it documented and preserved in a way that truly reflects our scene as only someone who fully understands our scene can do.

Flowerx run his event by spending money ! the dude goes into hock to keep doing his soul powered ( which tbh aint far from the name as he prob sold his soul long ago ) events. Yea thats right Promoters aint rich. The problem is that people that have no clue about what they are doing when setting up an event sometimes and then in turn they dont know who to ask. Stop trying to run an event to make money.
Expect when you run an event to
1. get stress and nearly die from having a heart attack trying to sort things out and
2expect to be broke at the end of it.
If you broke even then you was lucky.
These points in mind this is why wack peeps are being used to film events. Because the "promoters" ( and i use the term loosely) are not involved in the scene they dont know doy travel and the likes who have been capturing footage for years !!
Do your research and then hold an event not b4 !

Look, bro! This isn't a means to promote yourself, this thread was in actual fact to say something AGAINST production companies that can't film for shit. I personally don't know you, maybe others here do, but I don't appreciate your post. And bro, no one is talking about that "iPhone amateur shit" here.
