Guaguanco
Aims to pay a Homage to Salsa, It’s Roots and People.
By bringing salsa back to it’s origin
In the 60's and 70's Salsa was living in its golden age, this is agreed to be the case by many scholars, collectors, djs and Salsa lovers everywhere. This was the time when Salsa was truly reflective of its birth in the barrio. The music closely adhered itself to its Afro Latin roots while at the same time having the freedom to express itself in new ways and by adding and fusing the various Afro Latin rhythms together, it also managed to add elements from other musical genres to its repertoire.
At this time vinyl ruled the music world , This state of affairs was no different in Afro Latin music where new LP's were eagerly awaited with excitement by every one interested in this music, scholars, collectors, radio stations and its listeners etc, club DJ's tried to outdo each other in being the first ones to bring the new Killer tunes to the dance floor and dancers, Rumberos/as in turn couldn't wait to try some new step/turn to the new tunes to dance till the early hours. Salsa or Afro Latin music (we think this to be a more accurate term for this music) at this time was vibrant it had an innovative creative force and the sheer energy and bravado of the Barrio and its people where it had come from, evolved and developed for over three decades from the 40's onwards.
GUAGUANCO to celebrate and to pay homage to those heady times is proud to bring to the people a Vinyl Night of Old Skool Salsa Dura from the 60's 70's with some of London's top Djs spinning the tunes that made the people then rock the dance floor to this wonderful beautiful music. QUE VIVA LA SALSA DURA!! Dj Aqulies
