Moving In Circles present...

Castle Rocks BBoy Championships 2008 in association with Strathmore Spring Water.

Where: City Nightclub, Edinburgh, Scotland.
When: Saturday 16th August, 6-10pm.
What: International 2 on 2 battle.

1st Place - £400 cash prize.

Invites:

Phase-T, France (Crazy Monkey and Julee1).
Bad Taste Cru, Ireland (Raw-B and Jelly).
Random Aspekts, Scotland (Ma Roc and Matt Finish).
Psycho Stylez, Scotland (Bull and El Diaz).

The remaining 3 places will be battled for on the day. This may be reduced if more invites are confirmed. Registration is now open, places will be limited so please only register if you are definitely going to attend.

Rules:

Following on from last year there will be NO commandos allowed. However, routines will be permitted. I missed routines and believe they are a valuable asset in a battle. A routine will be defined as a run where both bboy/girls are involved for the duration of the run. A commando will be defined as a run where a solo run is followed or preceded by a routine. In this circumstance the judges will discount the throwdown. If there is a short toprock solo as a queue for a routine that is perfectly acceptable and wouldn't be penalised. If you are unclear about any of this please ask me questions rather than complain after the battle.

Judges:

Mphatic (Force 10).
Flo (Born To Rock/Kelso Kids).
Seek (COTMB).

Host:

Floor Carnivore, the host with the most (Random Aspekts).

DJ:

P-Stylz (Random Aspekts).

Anyone that was at this event last year will tell you how good it is. I'm not going to spend too much time being my own publicist but more people should travel up for this. The venue lends itself to some intense battle and once again it's going to go off. Here's a little something courtesy of Doy to remind you what its all about...

RESTRICTION: Unfortunately due to venue policy the event is only open to those aged 14 and over. ID will be required.

Afterparty:

The Foundation @ GRV, Guthrie Street.

The launch night of Random Aspekts monthly clubnight. 11pm-late.

Just-Roc and Wires, I've added you both as requested.

Stevie, tickets are available from the Fringe Box office. www.edfringe.com and should be booked in advance as the event WILL sell-out. However, there will be around 100 tickets available on the day on a first come first served basis. REGISTERED competitors will not need to purchase tickets and will be included on the express guestlist.

There will be some special guest performers but these are TBC.

Hektic, I will advise regarding routines shortly but it is more than likely that routines and commandos will be forbidden during the qualifiers.

Peace,

Dhalsim

Judging:

Mphatic (Force 10)
Flo (Born To Rock/Kelso Kids)
Seek (COTMB)

In attempt to make the judging as fair and responsible as possible, without implementing any complicated systems or criteria, the judges will have a few requirements.

Firstly, the judges will individually announce what they will be looking for and what will win or lose a battle. Judging bboying, as we know, is subjective, therefore if the competitors are made aware of what the judges on the day are looking for, they have the option of playing to that.

Secondly, the judges will be given a minute at the end of each battle to make a note about their decision - key moments, reasoning etc.

Finally judges will be held responsible for their decisions. If a competitor approaches a judge (RESPECTFULLY), the judge has the responsibility to explain and justify their decision. Judging is boring, I've judged a competition with 42 crews before, and I know it is easy to turn off. I've witnessed first hand judges 'napping' on the job, I won't name and shame but I'm sure you've all seen it too. The 3 main reasons for this requirement is to avoid negligence from the judges, to protect the judges from being called out later in the jam simply for a beaten bboy to prove a point or more appropriately massage an ego and finally to allow bboys/girls to learn.

I've selected 3 judges I believe to be experienced, head strong and articulate enough to deliver this criteria.

Rules

Following on from last year there will be NO commandos allowed. However, routines will be permitted. I missed routines and believe they are a valuable asset in a battle. A routine will be defined as a run where both bboy/girls are involved for the duration of the run. A commando will be defined as a run where a solo run is followed or preceded by a routine. In this circumstance the judges will discount the throwdown. If there is a short toprock solo as a queue for a routine that is perfectly acceptable and wouldn't be penalised. If you are unclear about any of this please ask me questions rather than complain after the battle.

Afterparty:

Anyone thats been to Edinburgh knows that Random Aspekts are more than capable of throwing an afterparty or even an afterparty's afterparty! So it is with great pleasure that I can announce that Random Aspekts will be launching their monthly clubnight, The Foundation, on the night of Castle Rocks. It's going to be hot!

Hey Pete,

I just went to the fringe website (followed the link you put up) and punched in Castle Rocks on the search engine and nothing came up?!? I've searched for 'bboy,' 'breakdance,' and 'moving in circles' too, tried to specify for the evening of 16th of august and still nothing's coming up.

Am I being dense or is it not possible to book a ticket online? I'm sure I managed it last year no bother.

Sorry for causing problems.

Peace

Liam

Liam,

Thanks for pointing this out to me. The Fringe has had many problems with their website this year which have allegedly been fixed. This should not still be happening. I have contacted their office, so hopefully this will be rectified shortly. I will advise once this is sorted.

Thanks again.
