Just curious if there are any dancers in the scene, that are into Punk and Metal music?
peace
P
Despite my Shakin' Stevens hairdo I'm into some punk/industrial/new wave bands:
Ministry, RevCos, Skinny Puppy, Big Black, Pistols, Banshees, Clash, Talking Heads etc
Not exactly Metal, but they use gutars :D

Psalm 69 by ministry was pretty metal I thought.
I like NOFX, got a couple of fat wreck comps. which I like although the bands all sound pretty much the same.
Not really metal though, apart from 80's hair metal, which rules.

i aint a big metaller, but it probably is my second favourite music genre next to hiphop. i like my Metallica, Rage, Korn, Pantera, Speedhorn, SOAD etc. dont really buy it tho, i get it burned off mates so i can spend my cash on hiphop, fo rilla. rock is the ideal diversion when i get a bit bored of listening to hiphop.

I'm not a metal fan as such but I've been to a Megadeath concert at Brixton academy, caused havoc in the mosh pit, kinda broke my nose, went crowd surfing, this then inspired me to go to concerts such as AC/DC, Page and Plant. Around this time, I listened to Slayer, Pantera, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and the sorts. In fact I was listening to Led Zeppelins 'Immigrant Song' the other day, has anyone noticed how tough the beat is in that tune! Has it been sampled yet?
I don't collect or listen to much/hardly any metal or punk but I truly recommend going to concerts with this type of music, I had a great time (although I was heavily influenced by alcohol at each one!).
It's hardly the essence of b-boying but it opens your eyes up to other scenes and genres of music, which I'm a believer in doing.

Talking Heads are amazing! They remind me of A Certain Ratio, who are also bloody brilliant. Do the DU!
Must admit I don't really know much about punk or metal. Most of the stuff I appreciate is more chilled out such as Morphine, Jeff Buckley, Paul Weller, Tindersticks, Muse, PJ Harvey etc... and the classics such as The Stones, Hendrix, The Doors etc..
But yeah being a bit of a 'soulie' at heart, there's so much more to learn.. so I'm glad this thread has been started. It's really cool.
Music's amazing! :)

1. why is this thread relevant?
2. i' into metal. it was my starting fav before hip hop. i like lostprophets, iron maiden e.c.t.
3. if you want an amazing song: Sonic mayhem - decent into cerebron, Sonic mayhem - quad machine, Sonic mayhem - big gun, and finally white zombie - rage.

I don't mind a bit of rock every now and then. I'm not really knowledgeable on the subject, but I enjoy a trip to the local rock club every now and then (and a bit of a mosh).

I do apologise if I have offended you. It is relevant to me, as stated previously I am curious to find out, if any of my fellow dancers, were into punk and metal music.
Next time I shall ask you, if it is ok for me to post something that is not to do with bboying.
thanks for your replies everyone, keep them coming.

Yo PBTCSIN, i'm not pissed at your sarcasm. i'm just pissed that you can't read and spell what you've read. My name is Bugmann(note the spelling with two 'n's)!!!! Not >>>>>>Bugman<<<<<.
My Post was not ment for offence but reading all of this beef jam and all of these new events makes this post stick out like a sore thumb. (Note: no offence intended, Yet again)
I don't understand why you (Sonny D) say 'accuse'? And you kind o biased, Look at Dude: He slagged from left to right and only posted about 15 posts.
i don't see you slagging him off?

I'd be annoyed to be taking english lessons from the person who wrote this:
"...he was such a twat. and probably legged it to not take any slag any more."
or this:
"My Post was not ment for offence but reading all of this beef jam and all of these new events makes this post stick out like a sore thumb."
Anyway its all about the late 80's indie bands!
Mudhoney
Dinosaur Jr.
Pixies

Rock out with your cock out!!!!!!!!!!!
I been trying to hold my tongue and not come on here anymore because its so shit these days but sometimes things have to be said....
Bugman you have been on the scene ten fucking minutes and you are talking shit to people who know a hell of a lot more than you and been around a lot longer. This is a lot more relevant than your pointless Dude poll. Shut up you prick, I'd pay money to see you say that shit to P or Sonny's face. Fucking plum
And another thing, Dude might have dissed a lot of people but he knew his shit. he probably came on here and saw how you lot behave and thought that was the status quo, he was just following your example
The rest of you take note of people like Otacon, Batfink, K-Real and Mphatic who rarely post but have something to say when they do. You don't see them posting repeatedly in the same thread discussing personal shit and throwing pointless cusses. yeah i used to post a lot too but at least I know when enoughs enough.
anyway...im feelin'..

Good to see a bit less of the hip-hop dogma on this site. Also good to hear a discussion of bands from MikeJeffs (white boy extraordinaire) instead of songs that sound ‘dope’, in this house for a change. To be honest if anyone’s interested then I think we should start a revolution on this bloody forum and make it rock and roll, so that I don’t have to hear about posts that are ‘whack’ anymore. Anyway check The Living End and 80-85 Bad Religion style, its all ‘dope’….

Anyone listen to Catharsis?
They were my introduction to hardcore and although I'm not "into it", more an occational gig-goer, they are fucking awesome.
Caught them over at the Pack Horse in Leeds a while back - amongst others 30 Seconds til' Armageddon were there too.
Brilliant gig, dope music - and possibly the most amazing drumming i've ever seen.
Not to mention Lindsay's (30 seconds) headlong charge into the front rows of the crowd that send people flying every which way - I saw him winding up for it as I was coming through the door and he's a big lad. Glad I wasn't in front of him - had to hurt.
I'm gonna have to dig out their album now too. Where'd I leave it?

i say "accuse" because you accused P of pointless posting, i think you'll find.
i direct my comments at you rather than other people because of the overwhelming hypocrisy in your post (ie. "this post is irrelevent" when you personally indulge in a massive amount of irrelevant posting).
do you see?
i like people talking about music. lately i have been enjoying:
tom waits
captain beefheart
zappa
the walkmen
the bees
british sea power
bowie
bob dylan (bringing it all back home/highway 61/bootlegs in particular)
the pixies

rob trujillo is mexican not of aboriginal descent.

agreed, rob is a good addition to mettalica, there was one good song on st. anger. a twist of mettalica but still cool - frantic. 'the memory remains' is a nut licker. the lyrics were like some new retard band were trying to be hardcore, or like a pop band tryin' to be hardcore.

one of my otha points was, i hate people that only exploit the band thru what they have seen on tv. what i really hate is people going for a grab for any known source of 'metal'.
also what makes me want to punch people is the fact that they call good charlotte and linkin park and the rasmus - heavy metal. my sweet and sour chicken ass! anything with a guitar is 'heavy metal' to them. schi like coal chamber is what i'd say is close to heavy metal.

to flow your combo's and shit!!! you will be surprised "got to be the good stuff though" just to try and get your timing smooth
and some times its balls to the walls and time to rip it up
but you know when the real beats drop the funk pulls you and

Cmon that's a limited interpretation of emo.
It's emotional hardcore, or well thats the idea, Thursday are heavy emo and they fuckin rule, check Standing on the Edge of Summer, fine tune, very emo.
Coheed and Cambria very emo but totally awesome and not at all "I love my girlfriend blah blah blah wahhhh she left me, boohoo" you're making me think of Radiohead with that kind of description, and they blatently are not emo.
I figure emo is like punk but with those singers that have got serious range and use it to emotional effect.
I personally wouldn't classify Incubus as emo.

fair enough dude its all in our minds as to who we like, but when i listen to emo, all i hear is my girfriend left me and my life sucks, true other genres have that theme to them (country western, RnB, hell even classical music sometimes) but if i was given a choice between pantera's "vulgar display of power" album or boy sets fire's "tomorrow come today" album i would choose pantera 99% of the time and that one percent would be so that i remember how good pantera are.
but then again thats just my opinion.

The thing with emo, is that some of it is actually quite good. In fact NOFX even did a couple of mopey songs which you might call emo (they just filled out the rest of their albums with songs about murdering the government).
Its just become a kind of embarrasing media stereotype, in the same way that white kids from the suburbs wearing doo rags and rolling up one trouser leg are an embarrasing hip-hop stereotype.
The thing is that once people start to follow the stereotype then the whole thing ends up going to shit, the innovators in any genre didn't start out trying to be stereotypes, but once a genre becomes established then people just copy the most publicised features and its gets watered down and then you end up with Busted or Pearl Jam or 50cent.
And thats kind of what is happening with emo now, if Dashboard Confessional don't make it big with the Spidey soundtrack then the majors will get some stage school kids dress them up in 'emo' clothes and they'll be all over CDUK before you know it.
Buy Repeater by Fugazi, for non-whiney emo

Or SoundGarden , Alice in Chains, Creed etc etc.
I don't actually have anything specific against Pearl Jam really, but my take on it goes like this - back around 1990 there was loads of really good US indie, like Pixies, Dinosaur Jr. Mudhoney, Pavement etc. all of whom were really good, original and distinctive.
Then along come Nirvana who are pretty good though not really my taste and within like a year everyone is wearing check shirts and timberlands and going on about how depressed they are and all of a sudden Pearl Jam are the biggest band in the universe.
So although I don't really mind Pearl Jam, I kind of think its all their fault that everthing went wrong.

fuck me - do they still do looney toons?!
i used to be there most saturdays in my indie days about 7-8 years back. loved those fluorescent drapes and cheap screens showing tom and jerry cartoons. ah, the memories... didn't used to venture downstairs into the metal bit too often.
